What Are Recalls?

A vehicle might be recalled if it was determined that there was a safety-related defect that needs to be addressed. When this happens, a letter is sent either by the vehicle's manufacturer or by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to anyone who is currently registered as the owner of the make and model of the vehicle.

Most people who receive a recall notice will be instructed to bring their vehicle to a manufacturer to have it repaired. If you never received such a notice yet believe that there is a recall for your vehicle, you can always check the NHTSA's website to stay up to date on recalls in the U.S.

Keep in mind that you aren't necessarily in danger if there is a recall on your vehicle. A recall means that there is a potential safety issue in certain situations that may or may not come up as you drive your vehicle. Still, it's best to address any recall notices that you receive as soon as possible just to be on the safe side.
