To date, BMW M Performance has created performance-driven, diesel variants of the X5, X6, and 550i. And now, the newly-formed division is turning its head to the petrol market, with the introduction of the BMW M135i concept.
The M135i will make it's grand debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, many are speculating that the next-gen BMW 1 Series variant could be closer to production than we think. This makes perfect sense to everyone at BMW of Sioux Falls, especially when you consider the Bavarian automaker's previous track record with concepts. Just look at the BMW i8 as an example. It debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, and now, half a year later, a production prototype has already been spotted being tested in the snow.
Want to know more about this new three-door concept? What defines it from all the rest? First, there's the body. At a glance, it's easy to tell that this is no ordinary BMW 1 Series. It features "a more dynamic and elongated appearance,"1 according to one BMW rep. And with its fluidic curves and menacing stance, we're inclined to say that this is an apt description. Then we have what's under the hood. The BMW M135i concept features a twin-turbocharged, straight six-cylinder engine, which delivers 300-bhp - a bold powerplant for an equally daring vehicle.
If the whole thing seems a bit over the top, it's because it should be. BMW designed the M135i concept using expertise gained from its racing division's decades of motorsports participation. And it's clearly seen throughout, from its reworked suspension to the heavy use of carbon fiber. In other words, you can safely bet that this is one concept that everyone at BMW of Sioux Falls will keep an eye on, even if BMW has no plans to bring it to the North American Market for the time being. After all, you never know what affect it could have on the new BMW models we carry here at 101 S Carolyn Ave.
