If there's one technology that always intrigued us here at BMW of Sioux Falls, and probably everyone else in the world, it's autonomous vehicles. You have heard it for years and mostly likely wished for it a few times. The simple wish that our cars would be able to drive themselves. Now, it is closer to reality than ever, and BMW has set the date of 2025 for when its lineup of luxury cars will drive for us.

BMW has teamed up with Continental and put together a solid plan so their lofty goal can be achieved. It starts with 2016, when partially automated driving technology will be implemented in the new BMW lineup. This will require the driver to actively monitor the vehicle as it drives on its own, and take over when needed. That is one giant leep towards luxury at its finest.

Jump four years later, and in 2020, BMW wants its models to be highly automated, with no monitoring required, but the driver still may need to take over when it is necessary.

By 2025, a new BMW should be able to drive itself on just about any surface, completely on its own, allowing you to perform other duties, or simply relax.

Of course, we don't want to get far ahead of ourselves at BMW of Sioux Falls, we believe nothing replaces the experience you get when your hands firmly grip the wheel of a BMW and your foot controls the accelerator. To see what that feels like, stop in to our showroom and take a test-drive!
