There are a lot of good reasons to invest in a hybrid or electric car, especially one made by BMW. Whatever the benefits may be, however, it can be hard for many potential drivers to get past the inconvenience of plugging in their vehicle. BMW recognizes that and has been taking strides to make the process easier for its customers.

How exactly does it plan on doing that? By eliminating the need to plug in at all.

While the option will initially only receive a limited release in small markets in Europe and the United States, BMW has plans to debut an inductive charging pad that will allow models of the BMW 530e hybrid to charge its battery wirelessly.

In Europe, the charging pad will, at first, only be available as a leasing option for the PHEV model of the BMW 530e. In the United States, it will begin its availability with a pilot program in California. While this market isn't huge, it's nonetheless a big step both for BMW and the hybrid/electric vehicle market. It removes another layer of difficulty that many people associate with hybrid and electric cars. Its success, in turn, could help pave the way for even more people to take the plunge and adopt an electrically-powered car.
